Comedy fundraiser FAQ: Everything You Want to Know Before You Book
What exactly is a comedy fundraiser night?
A comedy fundraiser is a ticketed live stand-up comedy show organized to raise money for your cause. Your group sells the tickets, hosts the event, and keeps the proceeds. Laughing Dad Entertainment supplies the comedian, the emcee, the show structure, and the promotional assets, so your committee isn't starting from scratch. Think of it as hiring a turnkey entertainment package with fundraising built in.
How does your organization actually make money?
Your group sets the ticket price, sells every seat, and keeps all revenue above the flat booking fee.
Many organizations stack additional fundraising on top of ticket sales:
How much does a comedy fundraiser cost?
Laughing Dad Entertainment's fundraiser pricing is structured to work for your organization — typically a percentage of ticket sales or a base rate customized to your event size, venue, and format. Every fundraiser is a little different, and the goal is a structure that makes sense for both sides. Reach out with your date and expected attendance and we'll put together a straightforward quote.
Is the comedy appropriate for our audience?
Laughing Dad Entertainment headliners regularly perform for churches, Catholic schools, civic organizations, and corporate clients across the Midwest. Before your event, you tell us about your audience — age range, values, and anything off the table — and we build the show around them.
What does the actual show look like from start to finish?
A standard show runs 75–90 minutes:
Can we add a VIP reception or meet-and-greet?
Absolutely, and it's one of the most effective ways to raise your top-line ticket revenue. A pre-show VIP reception with a meet-and-greet is a natural upgrade for a premium ticket tier or a major donor thank-you experience. Sponsor recognition from the stage, shout-outs for top donors, and custom emcee scripting around your mission are all on the table. Nothing is a surprise add-on on event day.
How many people do we need for this to be worth it?
Comedy fundraisers work well at 75–350 people. Smaller events (75–150) work in church fellowship halls, lodge rooms, restaurant event spaces, and school cafeterias. Larger events (200–400+) work in auditoriums, ballrooms, and event centers. If you're uncertain about expected turnout, reach out, and we'll help figure out the right format.
Do we need a professional venue, or can we use our own space?
Your own space works great. School auditoriums, church halls, community centers, lodge rooms, and VFW posts have all hosted successful Laughing Dad Entertainment shows. Basic requirements: a defined performance area, basic PA/sound capability, and seating oriented toward the performer. We'll walk you through the room setup during planning, so nothing is left to guesswork on show day. Laughing Dad Entertainment works hard to turn any event space into an authentic comedy club experience.
How far in advance do we need to book?
Four to eight weeks is the sweet spot, enough runway to sell tickets and button up logistics without feeling rushed. That said, shorter timelines happen. If your event is coming up fast, reach out anyway. We'll tell you honestly whether it's doable.
What does Laughing Dad Entertainment handle vs. what do we handle?
We handle: headlining comedian and emcee, complete show structure and timing, content calibration for your audience, pre-show promotional assets, and day-of-show management.
You handle venue and setup (Laughing Dad helps), ticket sales and promotion (Laughing Dad helps), food and beverage service, and any add-on fundraising activities, such as raffles or auctions.
The split is intentional. You know your donors, your venue, and your community. We know how to run a show that makes the room laugh and makes people glad they bought a ticket.
What kinds of organizations do you work with?
Past fundraiser clients include K–12 schools and PTAs, Catholic and Protestant churches, hospital and healthcare foundations, civic and fraternal organizations (Rotary, Kiwanis, Elks, Knights of Columbus, VFW), sports booster clubs, arts nonprofits, animal shelters, and community service organizations across Indiana, Kentucky, and the Midwest.
Where does Laughing Dad Entertainment serve?
We're based in Southern Indiana and regularly serve organizations across Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Ohio — including Evansville, Louisville, Indianapolis, Owensboro, Lexington, Cincinnati, and the communities in between. Inquiries from outside the Midwest are welcome, depending on availability and logistics.
What information do you need to give us a quote?
Just the basics: your event date (or a range), expected attendance, venue name and city if confirmed, the cause you're raising money for, and any audience specifics we should know. No lengthy intake form. Most fundraiser bookings are confirmed within 48 hours of first contact.
Why choose Laughing Dad Entertainment over booking a comedian independently?
Three reasons organizations come back — and send referrals:

Many organizations stack additional fundraising on top of ticket sales:
- 50/50 raffle — easy, crowd-pleasing, high-margin
- Dessert auction — works especially well for school and church groups
- Heads-or-tails game — fast, fun, minimal setup
- Live appeal / paddle raise — most effective when the emcee delivers it from the stage
- VIP ticket tier — a pre-show reception with the comedian drives premium pricing

- Emcee opens (10–15 min) — warms up the room, handles housekeeping, sets the energy
- Feature set (20–25 min) — a strong middle comedian keeps momentum building
- Intermission (15 min) — your team runs a raffle, a paddle raise, or a bar rush
- Headliner closes (35–45 min) — the big finish everyone came for

Why choose Laughing Dad Entertainment over booking a comedian independently?
Three reasons organizations come back — and send referrals:
- Experience with nonprofit audiences. A comedian who kills in a comedy club isn't the same as one who can work a church hall full of PTA parents and major donors. We know the difference.
- Flat-rate, transparent pricing. No negotiation theater, no commission structure that eats your margin, no invoice surprises after the show.
- Full show production. You're not managing an independent contractor — you're getting an emcee, a show structure, promotional materials, and day-of coordination all in one number.
